Rebuilding Civilization

July 25, 2005

An ongoing project about survival and rebuilding civilization after some theoretical disaster. (Nuclear war, Zombie outbreak, Giant asteroids, alien invasion etc.) I plan on including a list of books, articles, ideas, and other useful material for your consideration here in the future. As always your feedback and suggestions are encouraged.

I’m quite interested in survival theory, but what really intrigues me is the idea of rebuilding civilization after worldwide apocalypse of sorts. Could we regain the lifestyles that we are used to today or would we be forced back into a stone age.

Articles:
Rebuilding Civilization From A Garbage Dump. This is a post that talks about how once could make precise tools from a common materials. Quite interesting, a very practical theory.

Books:
The Making of Tools
by Alexander G Weygers

There are many books that more thoroughly cover blacksmithing, but this book is a nice simple guide to making your own tools (chisels, scissors, ect.) from ” scrap” metal; which would be in great abundance after a great downfall in civilization. I found my copy at Good will for 3 bucks.
